Thiruvenkadar had his Siva Deeksha from Sivachariyar and worshipped Lord Siva.
Thiruvenkadar got married to Sivakalai and with blessings of Lord Mahadevar he had a son named Marudhavanar. Once after his trading, Marudhavanar returned home in his ship, full of husk. His father was unhappy by this act. Marudhavanar gave a box to his mother, with a note in it, and he disappeared.
Madhuvanar took, Sanyasa ashram and composed songs, about Lord Siva, in the name of Pattinathaar. We see a separate sanctum for him, in this temple. This is the birth place of Pattinathaar and in Thiruvotriyoor we see his Siva Samadhi.
